We are historical!!

What a wonderful achievement for Local 1402 and the Tampa community!

President Andre Davis clearly hit the ground running, building on the foundation laid by Secretary-Treasurer Stephen Hall to accomplish something truly significant.

Getting a building both grant funded for restoration and officially designated as a historical landmark is a double win, it secures the finances for preservation and provides long term legal protection for the structure.

That’s no small feat when it comes to navigating county processes.

703 E. Harrison Street will now stand as a permanent piece of Tampa’s history, which is especially meaningful given how much downtown Tampa has transformed over the years. A landmark designation ensures that even as development continues to reshape the city, that building won’t be lost to it.

As we gather with our families and loved ones this Thanksgiving, we want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to each of you. Your hard work, dedication, and solidarity are the foundation of our union and the progress we continue to make together.

This year has brought its challenges, but it has also reminded us of the strength we share when we stand united. We are grateful for your commitment to one another and to the values that keep our workplace strong, fair, and safe.

May this holiday bring you rest, joy, and time to reflect on the blessings in your life. On behalf of Local 1402, we wish you and your families a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

And another one.
We don’t have a large local nor 30 gangs daily like some. We have what we have and it’s a blessing to sustain those who have put in countless hours of back breaking work to finally enjoy the fruits of their labor and enough for up and coming workers.
Thank you ILA for keeping dock workers relevant.

What a monumental day for the ILA in Tampa as (October 1, 2025) Local President Andre Davis Executed an MOU this week while in Houston.

(October 2, 2025) Local 1402 Secretary-Treasuer Stephen Hall welcomed the transition of Ports America crane techs and mechanics under the ILA Local 1402 work Jurisdiction.

We give thanks to SA&GCD President Alan Robb, ILA President Harold Daggett and ILA Executive Vice President Dennis Daggett for their wisdom and dedicated leadership in helping to make this possible.

ILA’S CHARLES SPENCER APPOINTED TO JAXPORT’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Please join us in congratulating ILA legend Charles Spencer on being appointed to the Port of Jacksonville’s Board of Directors

“Charles Spencer has served in leadership roles for decades with the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) Local 1408, the labor union representing many of the men and women who move cargo through JAXPORT’s terminals. He currently serves as International Vice President and Executive Vice President Emeritus for the ILA’s regional South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District.

A native of Jacksonville’s Eastside, he began working on JAXPORT’s docks in 1963 and has made significant contributions to the port’s growth ever since.

He is the recipient of the NAACP’s Benjamin L. Hooks “Keeper of the Flame” Award for his contributions to racial equality and fairness in the workplace. In 2024, City of Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan issued a proclamation proclaiming Labor Day 2024 as Charles F. Spencer Day in Jacksonville.”
