Last week: Society Hill Civic Association green-lights a ~$54,000 traffic study that includes the city’s plan to harden Pine & Spruce bike lanes. Same group put $25k toward the lawsuit fighting those barriers.

Paint isn’t protection. FHWA research finds converting a painted bike lane to a separated lane can cut bicycle crashes by about half. Philly’s own materials already cite major crash reductions for going from paint to separation.

Barriers work. Another study doesn’t replace them.

Piscitello Law is pleased to spotlight Dr. Manuel Morales Fontanilla, a Penn State Abington historian, cycling scholar, active Philadelphia-area cyclist, and former Piscitello Law client. His forthcoming book, Impossible Roads: A Cycling History of Colombia, explores the intersection of cycling, culture, political power, inequality, and social inclusion.

Dr. Morales’ work raises questions that remain relevant for cyclists and pedestrians today: Who has access to safe roads, and which communities receive investment in safer bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure? We are proud to highlight his work and its connection to the ongoing conversation about cycling safety, mobility justice, and safer streets throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Congrats to CAT-Coalition for Appropriate Transportation for hosting their first ever, car-free event last Saturday (9.12.26). offered a glimpse of how the community could thrive if cars were removed, even for a few hours. Bethlehem is fortunate to have such a strong safety advocate in the Mayor’s office. Mayor J. William Reynolds spoke about the need to implement a Complete Streets Plan for Bethlehem to make roads safer and more accessible for all. Kudos to CAT Board Member Lisa Lubin & to CAT ED Scott Slingerland for putting together this great event!

If we want safer streets, we can't let misguided federal leaders abandon their responsibility to protect vulnerable road users.
