An updated KEW Tip about unemployment insurance:

If I terminate an employee after a 90 day probationary period, do I still have to pay Unemployment Insurance? Most likely, yes. But, not immediately. And, possibly not ever. Contrary to popular belief, a probationary status has no bearing on whether an employer has to pay unemployment insurance. Whe...

Do I need to return my tenant's security deposit? When and how? These and other questions are answered on KEW Tips:

Nick Watt is presenting to the Dane County Bar Association regarding changes to Wisconsin's LLC law on October 13 at 12pm.

Register here by October 6:
https://www.dcba.net/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=168

From the DCBA:

Please join us at noon on Thursday, October 13, for a presentation by Attorney Nick Watt on Wisconsin’s comprehensive changes to its Uniform Limited Liability Company Law (LLC). In April 2022, Wisconsin enacted a new business entity law that completely transformed the old law, introducing significant changes for Wisconsin LLCs, including the definition of an operating agreement, the duties members and/or managers owe to the LLC, the process by which a member may bring a civil suit on behalf of the LLC, and the process by which a member may be removed from the LLC for wrongful conduct. As of January 1, 2023, this new law will govern all existing (or will it?) and future LLCs. Attorney Watt will present on what attorneys need to know about the new law in order to advise clients and prepare for the change.

Nick Watt is a partner at Kramer, Elkins, and Watt, where he practices litigation at the trial and appellate levels. Nick particularly enjoys fighting on behalf of oppressed minority shareholders, picking apart contracts in breach of contract suits, holding less than competent attorneys accountable for their poor representation, and litigating cases based on fraud. Through representation of business owners in disputes, Nick has become increasingly familiar with the state of Wisconsin’s limited liability company statutes and corporate statutes and represents individuals seeking to enforce their rights against their business partners and seeking what is often termed a “business divorce.”

RSVPs for the in-person lunch and the Zoom option must be made by Thursday, October 6.
