As the founder of Madison Immigration Law, attorney Huma Ahsan brings a unique background to her practice. While her professional career spans general immigration law, representation of minority groups and judicial experience – it’s her life experience that prompted attorney Ahsan to establish this firm. Born to immigrant parents as a first generation Indian-American, attorney Ahsan witnessed the

first-hand effects of our immigration policies. She personally felt the consequences of the ongoing changes in the laws. Attorney Ahsan practices general immigration law with an emphasis on professionals in the medical, education and technology fields, as well as family immigration and naturalization and citizenship issues in western Wisconsin, Madison, Middleton, Fitchburg, and the surrounding areas. Prior to establishing the Madison Immigration Law Group, attorney Ahsan represented many different minority groups on a variety of legal disputes in administrative hearings, state and federal courts. Thank You to the Emerge Gavel In Program.

I am honored to have been selected to participate in the 2025 Emerge Gavel In program, a rigorous two-month training specifically created to prepare women attorneys of color for potential roles on the bench.

The experience not only broaden my understanding of what it means to serve as a fair and effective judge. It also sharpened my focus on leadership, integrity and community responsibility within the legal profession. Being surrounded by a cohort of talented, driven women attorneys of color from across the nation was both empowering and inspiring.

Thank you to the Emerge Gavel In team for your commitment to diversity in the judiciary and for creating a space where women like me can envision and prepare for a possible future on the bench.

Congratulations to the Gavel In Class of 2025! Gavel In is Emerge’s award-winning judicial training program for women who want to run for judge.

The graduating class is made up of women across seven states: Washington, Arizona, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Georgia, New York, and Maryland. 90% of the class are a part of the New American Majority. We are excited to see what these incredible jurists accomplish in future!
