Tuesday Tip: If a person passes without a Will in Wisconsin, the probate court will address assets totaling $50,000 or more (excluding beneficiary designations, jointly held assets, or transfer-on-death assets). After payment of taxes, debts, and expenses, the remaining assets will pass according to law: all to spouse, then children and their children, or to other family members. There are separate provisions in the probate code for a married person with children from a prior relationship. An estate planning lawyer can help you set up an estate plan that meets your wishes.

As the firm continues to grow, we are excited to announce that we will be moving our Madison office, currently on the Capitol Square, to a new office building in the University Hill Farms Neighborhood near Hilldale Shopping Center, effective October 24, 2026. The new custom-built space provides modern updates and flexibility for growth while we continue providing top-tier, client-focused services. We believe the area to be one of Madison's evolving economic hubs, with retail businesses, restaurants, office buildings, government offices, a farmers' market, plenty of housing, bus transportation, and it’s close to the UW campus.
