Homeless Advocacy Project HAP is a nonprofit organization providing free legal services to reduce homelessness in Philadelphia

Established in 1990, HAP is the only legal services organization dedicated to providing direct civil legal services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia. HAP also advocates for the needs of the City’s homeless population, promoting positive changes in policies that impact those needs.

One of the many services HAP provides to our clients is access to vital records such as birth certificates. We do this both in-house and with the help of our pro bono attorneys, like Sharon A. O’Shaughnessy and Leena Charlton from Davis Wright Tremaine LLP.

HAP’s Annual Benefit will be held on October 28, 2026 at the African American Museum in Philadelphia.

Join us for a night of mingling, food and raffles (Basket and 50/50)! We’ll be honoring important members of our community who have helped HAP throughout the year with all the work that we do for our clients!

We’re just three weeks out from HAP’s Annual Benefit! Can’t attend? No problem, you can still enjoy the festivities with our 50/50 Raffle, where you can win up to $5k or more!

What is a 50/50 Raffle?
You can purchase 10, 30, 75, or 100 tickets to enter for a chance to win half of the funds raised. The other half will go towards HAP and our work to provide free legal services to people experiencing homelessness!

Recently, members of the HAP staff visited the Riverview Wellness Village to establish a new legal clinic partnership which will serve the more than 200 Gaudenzia and Merakey program participants on site. This clinic would not have been possible without vital and generous support from van Ameringen Foundation.
