$2 MILLION MEDICAL MALPRACTICE SETTLEMENT

Matthew Ports and Alex Marsh secured a $2 million settlement in a medical malpractice and wrongful death case involving the tragic death of a patient following surgery.

Our client presented to a rural Illinois hospital for surgical repair of an incisional hernia. The surgery was completed without complication. In the hours following the surgery, and while our client was still in the hospital, her potassium level became critically high (a condition called hyperkalemia). Although the condition was identified on post-operative labs, our client's nurse failed to timely communicate this information to a physician. The result was delayed treatment of the condition by several hours leading to multiple cardiac arrests which ultimately caused our client's death.

While no settlement can undo the loss of a loved one, accountability can provide families with a measure of justice and help protect their future.

On September 7, 2025, a 48-year-old driver and her 28-year-old daughter sustained injuries when a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction failed to yield the right of way and turned left at a controlled intersection cutting off the claimantsโ€™ vehicle and causing a collision. The mother sustained a fractured sternum and broken ribs and the daughter sustained fractures to her right finger (requiring surgical pin placement), left wrist and left foot, as well as associated contusions and abrasions.
