On behalf of the surviving daughter and wife, Cogan & Power attorneys John Power and James Edwards, with co-counsel Tom Stiberth, recovered $10,250,000 from a local municipality and driver following a motor vehicle incident at a festival. The driver struck a man working private security as he attempted to assist vehicles out of a parking lot. The man suffered traumatic injuries, was transported to a local hospital, and succumbed to those injuries 25 days after the incident. The Cogan & Power team argued the municipality failed to follow pre-written safety plans in how it directed traffic, and against the driver for driving the wrong way on a one-way thoroughfare without keeping a proper lookout.

Partners, Bradley N. Barker and Miguel A. Ruiz, secured a $1.27 million dollar verdict for a former railroad conductor who was injured in February 2022 while servicing an industry. The railroad company claimed the accident did not happen. Mr. Barker and Mr. Ruiz were able to prove that the accident did occur, that it was the railroad company’s fault, and that our client sustained career-ending injuries.

Hynes obtained a $3.8 million dollar settlement for the family of a Chicagoland man who was attacked by a pit bull and suffered a severe head injury. The man died a few days after the attack. The recovery for the man’s family was for the full amount of the available liability insurance from the pit bull’s owner.

Canulli obtained a $475,000 settlement for her 41-year-old client who suffered a right rotator cuff injury requiring surgery when she tried to catch herself after slipping on liquid in a grocery store. The grocery store knew of a leaking produce refrigerator but failed to take proper precautions to protect its customers. Our client suffers from deformity, pain, restricted range of motion, and a diminished quality of life.

Cogan & Power attorney Rebecca Schade secured a $550,000 settlement at mediation for their client who suffered a broken foot in a work injury. Our client was injured when a component of a forklift fell off of the forklift carriage and landed on his foot. The forklift had been modified so that the safety bolts holding the heavy components in place were removed.
