A powerful moment during the AAJ 2026 Annual Convention: Attorney Kathleen Nastri was proud to present at the 25th anniversary commemoration of Trial Lawyers Care on behalf of Richard Bieder, who was posthumously recognized for his instrumental role in leading this historic effort.
“The impact of Trial Lawyers Care was monumental for victims and survivors of the September 11th attacks,” said AAJ President Bruce Plaxen. “I’m proud of the dedication and contributions of so many of my colleagues, particularly those honored today. This is what being a trial lawyer is all about—helping those in need at the times they need it the most.”
At the AAJ 2026 Annual Convention, we commemorated the upcoming 25th anniversary of Trial Lawyers Care® and honored the trial lawyers whose extraordinary service reflects the very best of our profession.
Created in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Trial Lawyers Care® became the largest and most successful pro bono project in U.S. jurisprudence, with nearly 1,100 lawyers volunteering almost 900,000 hours to represent individuals and families in need.
This year’s commemoration recognized the leaders who helped make that historic effort possible. They included Richard A. Bieder (posthumously) of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, PC; Leo Boyle of Meehan, Boyle, Black & Bogdanow P.C.; Hugh Campbell of Rodman and Campbell, P.C.; and Larry S. Stewart of Stewart Tilghman Fox Bianchi & Cain, P.A. It also honored the late Dawn M. Barrios with the 2026 TLC Award for her extraordinary dedication to families facing catastrophic illness, hardship, and crisis.
