Fairfield woman gets suspended sentence in death of 81-year-old pedestrian--FAIRFIELD — A Fairfield woman charged with negligent homicide in the death of an 81-year-old pedestrian she struck while making a turn off Black Rock Turnpike last year received a suspended sentence after taking a plea deal to a lesser charge.
Attorney Edward Gavin, said the deal was "a fair and reasonable resolution to a difficult case." "It was truly an accident," Gavin said, noting that sun glare "played a big part" in the crash and that there were no allegations involving alcohol, drugs, speeding or distracted driving.
