Insurance companies often begin negotiations before the full impact of an injury is known. That doesn't automatically mean the offer is unfair, but it does mean it's worth understanding exactly what you're agreeing to before signing anything.

If you've been injured and have questions about your options, we're here to help you make informed decisions every step of the way. Questions about your case? We are here.

Every Labor Day weekend, Connecticut families take to the roads, waterways, and backyards to mark the close of summer. Last year's holiday enforcement period served as a reminder of just how quickly celebrations can turn tragic.

According to CT Insider, Connecticut State Police reported the following during the 2025 Labor Day weekend enforcement period: 282 motor vehicle crashes, 25 injury crashes, 35 DUI arrests, and 1 fatal crash on state-patrolled roads.

These numbers reflect real people in our communities.

As you head into the long weekend, we encourage you to plan ahead: designate a sober driver before the festivities begin, avoid swimming alone, and never leave a grill unattended near structures.

From all of us at RisCassi and Davis, we wish you and your family a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend.

To every new law student starting their journey this fall, welcome.

The road ahead is demanding, rewarding, and unlike anything you've experienced before. You'll be challenged to think differently, argue harder, and care more deeply about justice than you ever thought possible.

If you're heading to UConn Law, some of you will learn trial advocacy in the William R. Davis Courtroom. A space that carries a special meaning for our firm. William R. Davis, our co-founding partner, taught Trial Practice there from 1970 through 1987. His belief was simple: being a great lawyer means more than mastering the law. It means understanding the profound responsibility of representing people who are counting on you.

That courtroom bears his name because he shaped generations of Connecticut attorneys and that legacy lives on every time a new class walks through those doors.

At RisCassi & Davis, we've been fighting for the rights of the seriously injured in Connecticut for over 70 years. We're proud to see the next generation stepping up.

Study hard. Stay curious. And never lose sight of why you started. ⚖️

A dog bite can occur in a matter of seconds, but the decisions you make afterward can have a lasting impact on both your health and your legal rights.

If you or a loved one is bitten by a dog, consider the following important steps:
-Seek medical attention as soon as possible.
-Document your injuries and the scene.
-Obtain the dog owner's contact information, if it is safe to do so.
-Report the incident to local Animal Control or the appropriate authorities.
-Understand your legal rights under Connecticut law.

Many people are surprised to learn that Connecticut generally follows a strict liability rule for dog bite cases. In many situations, an injured person does not have to prove that a dog had previously bitten someone or that the owner knew the dog was dangerous. However, each case is unique, and certain exceptions may apply.

Your health and recovery should always be the top priority. Understanding your options can help you make informed decisions if the unexpected occurs.

As families prepare for the upcoming school year, it is important to recognize that not every product on store shelves meets adequate safety standards.

Backpacks, school supplies, lunch containers, and sports equipment are among the most commonly purchased back-to-school items and each carries the potential for manufacturer defect. Under Connecticut law, manufacturers are legally obligated to ensure the products they market to children are safe. When they fail to meet that standard, families bear the consequences.

Parents should be aware of the following this season:

• Active recalls on school supplies, bags, and lunch containers. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) maintains an up-to-date database at cpsc.gov
• Poorly constructed backpacks with straps or hardware susceptible to failure under ordinary use
• Sports gear and protective equipment that does not meet established safety standards

When a child is injured by a defective product, it is not simply an accident, it may constitute manufacturer negligence. Connecticut's Product Liability Act was enacted to protect families in precisely these situations.

Recent news out of Connecticut has left many parents shaken and rightfully so.

When we trust a facility with our children, we expect them to be safe. When that trust is broken, families deserve answers and accountability.

If you are reevaluating your child's care or choosing a new facility, here are questions every parent should be asking:

🔎 Is the facility licensed and up to date on inspections? Ask to see documentation.

🔎 What does their background check process look like for all employees, including substitutes and fill-in staff?

🔎 What are the supervision policies during nap time and transitions between activities?

🔎 Are cameras in place, and do parents have access to footage if a concern arises?

🔎 What is the protocol when a complaint or concern is raised about a staff member?

🔎 Can you visit unannounced? A quality facility will always say yes.

Your instincts matter. If something feels wrong, trust that feeling and know that you have rights as a parent.

As the new school year begins, roads across Connecticut become significantly more active, more cars, more pedestrians, more cyclists. And with that increased activity comes an increased risk of accidents.

If you or someone you love is injured this fall, there is one critical legal deadline to be aware of:

⏳ Connecticut law provides a two-year statute of limitations to file a personal injury claim.

That window begins on the date that the negligence occurred, and it moves more quickly than most people expect. Missing that deadline, even by a single day, permanently forfeits your right to pursue compensation, regardless of the strength of your case.

RisCassi & Davis, P.C. has been protecting the rights of seriously injured Connecticut residents for over 70 years. If you have questions about your legal rights after an accident, our team is here to help.
