The Florida Bar International Law Section The ILS was founded in 1981 to provide an organization for members in good standing who have an interest in the field of international law.

The International Law Section of The Florida Bar (ILS) is where international law practitioners come to elevate their practice with cutting-edge resources, expert-led events, and a dynamic network of professionals shaping the future of international law. The International Law Section of The Florida Bar (ILS) is a forum for the exchange of hot-button, need-to-know information and best practices that impact the practice of international law. It is also a forum for the sharing of knowledge, experience, and “best practices” that may improve the administration and application of the statutes, rules, and regulations of international law and enhance the proficiency of practitioners.

Did you know spending 183 days or more in the United States in a calendar year can make you a U.S. income tax resident, even if you are not a U.S. citizen or green card holder? 🌍

Additionally, the "substantial presence test" looks at more than just days in the United States in the current year. It factors in days from the prior two years as well, which means international clients can trigger U.S. income tax resident status without realizing it.

Understanding these rules matters for non-U.S. persons spending significant time in the United States. Explore more international tax topics in the ILS International Law Deskbook 2nd edition: https://bit.ly/3Of3ixl
