I think this might be one of the biggest scams on society:

We’ve been conditioned to be scared to use our own insurance.

Think about it.

You pay premiums every month.

Month after month. Year after year.

Then something catastrophic actually happens—the EXACT reason you’ve been paying for coverage—and suddenly you’re afraid to use it.

That makes no sense to me.

You didn’t pay all those premiums just to be afraid of filing a legitimate claim when you actually need your coverage.

That’s what insurance is there for.

I’ve officially added something new to our civil-case engagement letter:

An AI provision.

Why?

Because I don’t want my clients putting the details of their case into an AI tool and assuming that conversation has the same protections as a conversation with their lawyer.

It may not.

Depending on the circumstances, information entered into AI platforms could potentially become relevant in discovery or litigation.

So my advice to clients is simple:

If you have questions about your case, call me.

Don’t tell AI something you wouldn’t want potentially becoming part of the case later.

If you grew up in the 2000s beauty world, seeing MAC inside Sephora probably made you do a double take.

For years, going to MAC was an experience of its own. Now, the legacy beauty brand is entering a completely different retail environment.

And from a lawyer’s perspective, what interests me isn’t just the makeup. It’s everything that can happen behind the scenes when a major brand expands into a new retailer: distribution agreements, inventory, pricing, exclusivity, and positioning in an increasingly competitive market.

After an accident, you’re probably thinking about a hundred different things.

Your injuries.

Your car.

Missing work.

Doctor appointments.

Your family.

Meanwhile, the insurance company has already started doing its job.

Their goal is to pay as little as they can and as far into the future as possible.

My job is the opposite.

I want to pursue the most we can for my client and get the case resolved as soon as reasonably possible.

I understand why people wait to call a lawyer. You’re overwhelmed and still trying to process what just happened.

But when it comes to protecting your case, the sooner you have someone in your corner, the better.

If you asked me today which insurance company is my least favorite to deal with…

State Farm.

And it’s not even close right now.

As a personal injury lawyer, I deal with insurance companies constantly, and my opinions change based on what I’m actually seeing in my cases.

Right now, the experiences I’m having with State Farm claims have officially put them at the top of my list.

This is obviously my opinion based on my own experiences representing clients, but I’m curious:

Because there’s a big legal difference between not loving your brows and actually being injured during a beauty treatment.

My client was a teacher. One afternoon, he was sitting in his apartment after school, grading papers with his feet propped up.

Then he heard a loud bang.

Suddenly, his foot was on fire.

A man in the apartment next door had fired a gun. The bullet went through the wall, into my client’s apartment, and struck him in the foot, causing a devastating injury.

By the time he called me, he’d already been out of work for weeks and several attorneys had declined the case.

But I also have experience in real estate law.

So I looked beyond the shooter and started asking questions about the apartment complex.

We ultimately pursued the case and secured a substantial recovery for him.

Sometimes experience outside the obvious area of law helps you see a case differently.

“How often do you actually go to court?”

For my first three years as a prosecutor?

Daily.

For the 17 years since?

I’d say weekly.

But after 20 years of practicing law, I’ve realized the bigger question isn’t how often you go to court.

It’s whether you know what to do when you get there.

Some cases need you to come out of the gate aggressively.

Others need you to slowly turn up the pressure.

You have to know when to file, when to settle, when to reject an offer, and when it’s time to push.

There’s no one strategy that works for every case.

After doing this for 20 years, figuring out the right strategy for each individual client is still one of the most important parts of my job.

One of the biggest misconceptions about what I do?

That I always want to sue.

I actually spend a lot of time talking my clients OUT of certain decisions.

Sometimes I think filing a lawsuit is absolutely the right move.

Sometimes I think settling is the better outcome.

And sometimes I may tell you that pursuing a lawsuit simply doesn’t make sense.

It depends entirely on the case.

My job isn’t to create a legal battle just because I’m a trial lawyer. It’s to look at your situation, explain your options, and tell you what I genuinely believe gives you the best outcome.

Sometimes the best lawyer isn’t the one telling you to fight harder.

It’s the one willing to tell you when not to.
