For many North Texas families, a vacation home or timeshare holds years of memories and traditions. But without a clear estate plan, these special properties can also lead to confusion, surprise costs, or disagreements later on.

If you own a second home or timeshare, now is a great time to think through how you want that property handled in your estate plan. A little planning can go a long way toward protecting both the asset and your family’s peace of mind.

As we celebrate National Grandparents Day, we’re reminded of the love, wisdom, and stability grandparents bring to every generation. Their influence often inspires the values and traditions that shape our families.

In my work as an estate planning attorney, one of the most meaningful parts is helping families protect the people who matter most and create a legacy filled with clarity and peace of mind.

Today is a great reminder to honor the grandparents who helped shape your story and to consider the future you want to leave for your own loved ones. If you have questions about planning ahead or creating the right will, trust, or powers of attorney for your family, I’m here to help.

When was the last time you looked over your estate plan? If it has been a few years, you are in good company. Many families assume their plan is finished once it is signed, but life changes—and your documents should keep up.

Here are a few helpful reminders:

- Regular reviews matter. Many Texans revisit their estate plan every three to five years to be sure it still matches their wishes.
- Big life changes count. Marriage, divorce, a new baby, or buying a home are all good reasons to update your will or trust within about 60 to 90 days.
- Know the common triggers. The “5 Ds” (death, disability, divorce, distance, and descendants) often signal it is time for a review.

An estate plan should grow with your family. If it has been a while since you updated yours, our team at the Law Office of Janelle Cremé is here to help. We are proud to support families across Prosper, Plano, McKinney, Frisco, Celina, and the greater DFW area with clear, personalized guidance.

Many people are surprised to learn that a last will and testament and a living will do completely different things. Even though the names sound similar, each document protects a different part of your wishes, and both play an important role in a complete estate plan.

As an estate planning attorney here in Prosper, I help clients understand how these documents work together so their plans are clear, legally strong, and easy for loved ones to follow.

If you’re unsure which documents you need or it’s been a while since you reviewed your estate plan, I’m here to help. Reach out anytime with your questions.
