Legal Association for Women Advancing the interests of women in the legal profession and system in Dane County. Becoming a member is easy.

The Legal Association for Women (LAW) is a community of lawyers and professionals concerned about the law as it affects women. LAW also focuses on issues affecting women in legal and law-related professions. Dues are $40 per calendar year; $20 if you join with less than 6 months remaining in the calendar year. Please make all checks payable to the Legal Association for Women. LAW bylaws provide that "any person subscribing to the purpose of the Association...is eligible for membership." LAW welcomes male as well as female members, and non-lawyers as well as lawyer members. The Legal Association for Women (LAW) is now accepting nominations for this prestigious award. A link to the official nomination form appears below.

Established in 1994, the Marygold Melli Achievement Award celebrates an outstanding individual in Wisconsin who has made substantial contributions to the interests of women in the law, has achieved professional excellence, and has contributed significantly to the eradication of gender bias in the legal system.

The award honors Marygold (Margo) Shire Melli, a distinguished professor, prolific legal scholar, and parent of four. During her career, she made significant contributions to her profession in the areas of family, juvenile, and criminal law and to the community at large.

The award recognizes a person of similar professional excellence who has made significant contributions to women in the law by:
- advancing the interests of women members of the legal profession;
- promoting improvements in the administration of justice;
- promoting equality and social justice for all people;
- promoting the rights of women in society; or
- improving relations between the legal profession and the public.

LAW's May CLE Luncheon Announcement: Social Security Disability (SSD) Basics

Join Attorneys Natalie Gerloff and Maeve Pirt Meyer for a short overview of Social Security’s two disability programs, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

This CLE presentation will be helmed by two SSD practitioners who also have experience in non-disability practice areas. They will be providing a short overview of Social Security’s two disability programs, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and they will discuss how the SSD programs intersect with other practice areas. All the material will be tailored for non-SSD practitioners, and the presenters encourage attendees to bring their questions.

From its bipartisan Elections Commission to the 72 county clerks and 1850 municipal clerks who conduct elections, Wisconsin boasts the most decentralized election administration structure in the country. This presentation will serve as a primer regarding the Statutes governing that structure and a reminder of the roles of various election officials that will address the issues and conduct the upcoming Spring Election and this fall’s midterm elections.
