Meet the Attorneys: Kristin L. Steckbeck

During National Estate Planning Awareness Week, we are proud to reintroduce an attorney who has focused on estate planning, probate, and related areas of the law since 2007. Kristin's practice includes estate planning, probate, trust administration, guardianship, special needs planning, long-term care planning, and asset preservation planning.

Kristin is a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA), as recognized by the National Elder Law Foundation, and a Certified Trust and Estate Specialist through the Indiana State Bar Association's Trust & Estate Specialty Board. She is also a member of the Special Needs Alliance. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, she earned her law degree magna cm laude from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law.

Kristin has chaired the Probate Section of the Allen County Bar Association since 2019 and serves on the Board of Directors of Indiana Legal Service, a statewide nonprofit pro bono organization.

It is important to mention that she is celebrating 7 years with the firm this month!

This week, October 19 through 25, is National Estate Planning Awareness Week. It is a good reminder that estate planning is not only for the wealthy. It is for anyone who wants their wishes known and their family spared from guesswork during a hard time.

Without a plan, Indiana law decides who receives your property, and a court may need to appoint someone to make decisions for you if you become unable to make them yourself. A solid plan often starts with a few key documents: a will or trust, a durable power of attorney, and an Appointment of Health Care Representative.

All week, we will share what estate planning is, who it is for, and when to review it. If your plan has not been reviewed in a few years, this is a great time.

Meet the Attorneys: Keith P. Huffman

For more than 45 years, Keith has helped Northeast Indiana families plan for aging, long-term care, and the protection of what they have worked for. He was admitted to the bar in 1980 and focuses on asset preservation planning, elder law, estate planning, and long-term care planning.

Keith is a former president of the Indiana chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and a past Chairperson of the Elder Law Section of the Indiana State Bar Association. In 2016, he received NAELA's nationwide Powley Award, which recognizes one member each year for a commitment to serving older adults. He also serves on the boards of Northeast Indiana's Aging & In-Home Services and Stillwater Hospice.

Meet the Attorneys: Timothy K. Babcock

Tim has practiced law since 1999 and focuses on asset preservation planning, probate, estate planning, trust administration, and long-term care planning. He earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University Bloomington and his law degree from Emory University in Atlanta.

Tim is a Certified Trust and Estate Specialist and has been named a Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers magazine five times. He is a member of the Allen County, Wells County, and Indiana State Bar Associations and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA).

Close to home, Tim serves as Treasurer of the Bluffton Rotary Board and on the Board of Directors of the Wells County United Way. Families across Wells and Allen Counties trust him with some of the most important decisions they will make.
