Thereโ€™s something special about flowers. Their colors catch our eyes, their fragrances can bring back memories, and the simple act of arranging them gives us a chance to slow down and enjoy the moment. Engaging our senses can spark positive emotions and create meaningful connections.

That makes events like this especially meaningful in an early-stage memory care community. Familiar sights, scents, and hands-on activities can help residents connect with memories, express themselves, and enjoy time together.

This one hit a little closer to home for me, too. ๐Ÿ’ My daughter was speechless when I brought her home a bouquet. I showed her how to trim the stems, fill a vase with water, and find the perfect spot for her flowers right on her bedroom dresser. Watching the joy something so simple brought her was incredible.

It was a good reminder that sometimes the simplest things bring the most joy. Whether its a toddler proudly displaying flowers in her room or a resident enjoying a familiar scent, these little moments can mean so much.

Many families assume that having a Durable Power of Attorney (POA) means theyโ€™ll continue to have authority over their loved oneโ€™s finances after their passing.

But thatโ€™s not how it works.

Once the person who created the POA passes away, the agentโ€™s authority under that document generally ends. If assets donโ€™t have a beneficiary designation or another probate-avoidance plan in place, those assets may still have to go through probate.

A Durable Power of Attorney can be an important part of an estate plan but it does not, by itself, avoid probate.

Understanding what your documents actually do before a crisis happens can help your family avoid unexpected complications later.

Caring for an aging parent often comes with an important question: What type of care do they really need?

Adult day care and home health care can both provide valuable support, but they serve different needs.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Adult Day Care may be a good fit for a parent who is still fairly mobile but needs daytime supervision, meals, activities, social interaction, or light health monitoring.

๐Ÿก Home Health Care may make more sense when a parent needs help with bathing, dressing, meals, mobility, medication reminders, or certain medical needs while remaining at home.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Cost and how care is paid for matter, too. Adult day care is generally less expensive than extensive in-home care, while Medicare has limited coverage for skilled home health services and generally does not cover ongoing custodial care.
Some families may even combine both options depending on their loved one's needs and schedule. The key is understanding your parent's care needs and planning for how those services will be paid for.
