Five years of clients, courtrooms, unexpected lessons, wins, and a LOT of learning. Here are 5 things practicing law and running my own firm have taught me:

1. People want to feel heard. Sometimes being in someone’s corner matters just as much as giving them an answer. And one thing I’ve learned over and over: things get better.

2. Not everyone tells you the truth. 😅 Ask the uncomfortable questions before someone else does, especially before you’re standing in front of a judge.

3. People who don’t respect your rate usually don’t respect your time. Know the value of your time, your work, and your boundaries.

4. More experience does NOT automatically mean better or more prepared. Experience matters, but preparation is powerful. Never let someone else’s résumé intimidate you out of the room.

5. SPEAK UP. You can be nervous and still advocate fiercely for your client. Make the objection. Correct the record. Say what needs to be said. Do it nervous.
