YouTube, Snapchat, and TikTok: It’s time to protect our kids!

Utah Parents United is proud to join organizations across the country in signing a letter demanding stronger protections for children online.

We know these companies have the technology and resources to do more. The question is whether they will.

Utah has already taken action by passing the App Store Accountability Act, and we will continue advocating for stronger safeguards and accountability.

If Big Tech won’t act voluntarily, we will keep fighting for laws that protect children and empower parents.

Our message is simple: Our children WILL be protected. With Big Tech’s cooperation or without it.

We agree with Derek Brown that these protections are amazing! But we can’t stop now. Every platform needs to protect children not just Meta. The best way to do that is to put the PARENTS at the gate. The only bill that does that is the App Store Act.

This doesn’t surprise us at all.

For years, Utah Parents United has sounded the alarm about what happens when powerful unions have too much control over education policy. A new analysis found a strong negative correlation between teacher-union power and the adoption of evidence-based literacy reforms.

When protecting institutional power becomes the priority, kids can get pushed to the back of the line.

That’s why our position has always been simple: we support kids, not unions.

We will continue working to ensure that parents, students, and teachers—not powerful unions—have a stronger voice in Utah’s classrooms.

Education policy should be about what helps children learn and succeed. Period.

All day. Every day. Every subject.

School has become a blur of headphones, Nearpods, and screen-based lessons.

It’s sad that this is what education looks like for so many of our kids. Our kids deserve better—and that’s what we’re fighting for.

We helped pass the BALANCE Act in Utah, and now we’re working to help other states advance similar legislation.

Because education should mean:

Less screen time.
More hands-on learning.
Better learning.
Real skill development.
Teachers teaching.
Kids actively engaged in the classroom.

Technology should support education—not become education.

New York City got this right. 👏

The nation’s largest public school system is hitting pause on generative AI for nearly 600,000 elementary and middle school students.

Why? Because our children should not be the testing ground for experimental technology.

For too long, we rushed technology into childhood and classrooms before understanding the consequences. We should not make the same mistake with AI.

Until meaningful safeguards and guardrails are established—and we have independent evidence that these tools are safe, developmentally appropriate, and actually improve learning—a pause for younger children makes sense.

This isn’t anti-AI. It’s child first.

Innovation should serve children. Children should never be asked to serve innovation.

Big Tech is asking kids to agree to contracts, terms of service, and user agreements they often don’t understand—and parents are being cut out of the process.

That needs to change.

If a company wants to enter into an agreement with a child, parents should be the ones giving consent. It’s a simple principle: parents—not tech companies—have the responsibility and authority to make decisions for their children.

Our kids shouldn’t be clicking “I agree” while parents are left in the dark.

It’s time to put parents back where they belong: in charge.
