Before stepping into real estate leadership, Mike Parkinson spent years working blue-collar jobs—including dishwashing, machining, and operating a successful mortgage company—before being forced to rebuild his career following the 2008 housing collapse. Overcoming profound personal losses, financial hardship, and major life setbacks, Mike channeled those experiences into deep empathy and a resilient, structure-focused approach to leadership, joining JMG in 2019 to launch and expand their Utah division. Now serving as Regional Vice President and Principal Broker overseeing agents across multiple states, he combines an active sales practice with hands-on mentoring, helping agents leverage technology and business systems to build sustainable careers. Outside of his professional role alongside his best friend and business partner, Lorie, Mike stays deeply committed to supporting veterans, helping individuals in addiction recovery, staying active in his faith, and spending quality time outdoors with his family.

One decision taught me an important lesson.

In 2024, Lorie and I made the decision to leave behind a 3% interest rate and purchase another home with a rate above 6%.

On paper, that probably wasn’t the decision many people expected.

But it was the right decision for our lives.

Working in real estate has reminded me that people don’t move because interest rates are perfect.

They move because life changes.

A growing family.

A new opportunity.

A shorter commute.

More space.

A different chapter.

Interest rates matter.

But they’re rarely the whole story.

This experience was a good reminder for me that the best decisions are usually made by looking at the complete picture—not just one number.
