🚫 MYTH: "I wrote out my wishes by hand and signed it — that's a valid will in Alabama."

Alabama does recognize holographic wills — but the requirements are strict, and courts scrutinize them closely. No witnesses, ambiguous language, and missing formalities have caused handwritten wills to be thrown out entirely. The result? The intestacy laws decide your estate, not you.

A handwritten note is not a plan. It's a starting point for a legal dispute.

"Blended Family, One Plan"

Blended families need a plan built for them. That's what we do.

"You Have a Hurricane Kit. Do You Have a Plan?"

You've got the water, the batteries, the generator, and the plywood.

Add one more thing to the list: a folder with your will, your powers of attorney, and your health care directive — and somebody who knows where it is.

Preparing for the storm you can see is smart. Preparing for the one you can't is everything.

🚫 MYTH: "Once I set up a trust, I can never change it."

A revocable living trust can be amended, restated, or revoked entirely — by you, anytime, for any reason, as long as you have capacity. You are the trustee. You are in control. Nothing is locked in.

Irrevocable trusts are a different structure, used for specific goals like Medicaid planning or creditor protection, and they involve real trade-offs worth understanding. But they are not the default.
A revocable trust bends to your life. That's exactly what it's designed to do.

"One Password. A Lifetime of Photos."

Every photo from the last ten years lives on a phone with a passcode only you know.

Your plan should say who can access your accounts, your photos, your email, and your phone — and Alabama law now lets you give someone that authority in writing.

Don't let a six-digit code lock your family out of your memories.

"Who Gets the Boat?"

The boat. The beach house. Grandma's pier lot in Point Clear.

The things families fight over usually aren't the big accounts — they're the things everyone loves and nobody wrote down.

A plan says who gets what, in writing, so the people you love stay people who love each other.

"Your Will Does Not Avoid Probate."

Myth: "I have a will, so my family won't have to go through probate."

Truth: A will is the document that goes to probate. It tells the court what you wanted — it doesn't skip the court.

If avoiding probate matters to you, that's a different conversation. Happy to have it.
