Hang up and call your bank directly! We want to make you aware of an ongoing fraud scheme targeting banking customers across multiple states.
Fraudsters are impersonating bank fraud representatives, including our Treasury Solutions Department and, in some cases, spoofing legitimate call center number to contact businesses. These calls may appear to come from a bank, but they are not.
In the reported scam:
Fraudsters claim they are calling to verify a suspicious check that is being negotiated at a branch
After the customer confirms the check is fraudulent, the caller adds that there is also unusual online banking activity from a different geo location.
The customer is then directed—verbally—to click or type in a link to “add extra security” to their account.
The link leads to a fake website that mimics online banking portal Fraudster requests passcode sent via SMS (text message)
Fraudsters may call, claiming to verify a wire, when in fact, no wire has been originated. Once the customer enters their login credentials and authentication code, the fraudster gains access and initiates unauthorized wires or ACH payments.
Important Reminders:
If you are contacted by a bank representative over the phone or email, please keep in mind that:
A bank will not ask you for personal identifying information, account information, or your online banking credentials to help identify you.
A bank will never ask you to log in to your account using a link provided over the phone or email.
