Most families don’t start thinking about long-term care until there’s already a crisis.

A fall. A hospital stay. A sudden diagnosis.

And then suddenly, everyone is trying to figure out how to pay for nursing home care that can cost thousands of dollars every single month. 😳

That’s where crisis planning comes in.

There may still be legal and financial options available to help protect assets while getting a loved one the care they need.

The important thing to know is this: even if a family didn’t plan years in advance, it’s not always too late to get help.

👉 If someone you love is facing a long-term care crisis, our team is here to help guide you through it.

Canadian lawyer Charles Vance Millar had one of the wildest wills in history. 😅

When he died, he left part of his fortune to whichever Toronto woman had the most children in the ten years after his death.

Yes… seriously.

The competition became known as “The Great Stork Derby,” and in the end, four women with nine children each split the inheritance. 👶

It’s funny to look back on now, but it’s also a reminder of how much power estate planning documents actually have.

Your will can shape behavior, create conflict, inspire generosity… or apparently start a decade-long competition. 🤣

Which is exactly why thoughtful planning matters.

Let’s be honest… for some people, their pets are their favorite children anyway. 😅🐾

And yes, many families actually include their pets in their estate planning to make sure they’re cared for if something happens.

Because someone needs to make sure Mr. Whiskers maintains his current standard of living. 👑

🤔 Why would you want either of these?

They are your “backup” plan in case you need someone to make important decisions for you
when you aren’t able to (i.e., if you have a stroke).

They are identical except for one BIG detail:

A Power of Attorney is a document meant for LIMITED circumstances and will become ineffective the moment you become disabled.

A Durable Power of Attorney is a document that stays in effect even if something happens to
you. It won’t expire until you pass away.

Which one would you prefer?

🇺🇸 Happy Flag Day.

Did you know the American flag was officially adopted on June 14, 1777?

Today, we celebrate the Stars and Stripes and the history, unity, and freedom it represents. 💙

Here’s to honoring the symbol that has represented our country for nearly 250 years.

Everyone has that one thing that instantly makes it feel like summer. ☀️🍉

Maybe it’s backyard cookouts, beach days, fresh watermelon, family vacations, or staying outside until the sun goes down.

We want to hear what makes the season feel complete for you. 😎

A lot of spouses of Veterans are paying out-of-pocket for assisted living… without realizing they may qualify for VA benefits. 🇺🇸😳

Programs like VA Aid & Attendance aren’t just for Veterans themselves. In some cases, spouses may qualify for financial help too.

And considering how expensive long-term care can get, that support can make a huge difference.

The hard part is that many families don’t even know these benefits exist, or assume they won’t qualify.

👉 If you’re navigating care for yourself, a spouse, or a loved one, our team can help you explore your options.

Wellington Burt was so determined to control his wealth after death that his will delayed distributions until 21 years after his last surviving grandchild passed away. 😳

The result?

His fortune sat untouched for nearly 100 years and wasn’t distributed until 2010, to distant relatives who had never even met him.

It’s one of the wildest examples of how powerful estate planning can be.

Because yes, a plan can protect your legacy… but it can also create decades of delays and complications if it’s too restrictive. ⚖️

Estate planning is all about balance, protecting what you’ve built while still making sure your wishes work in the real world.

When it comes to elder law, preparation matters more than most people realize.

Having the right documents in place, like powers of attorney and healthcare directives, can make an enormous difference during a medical emergency or unexpected crisis. 🏥

These decisions are much easier to make calmly and thoughtfully now, rather than under pressure later.

Because the goal isn’t just to react when something happens.

It’s to be prepared before it does.
