If you're on the EB-1 or EB-2 NIW path, the Visa Bulletin determines when you can start the final stage of your Green Card process and when your case can actually be approved.
But it's notoriously easy to misread: two nearly identical charts, cutoff dates that move backward, and single letters like "C" or "U" that change everything.

Our new article breaks down common scenarios with practical examples and answers the questions we hear most:

→ My date was current last month. Why isn't it now?
→ My I-140 is approved, but my date isn't current. What happens next?
→ Can I file my I-485 before my I-140 is approved?

The October 2026 Visa Bulletin is out.

EB-2 is no longer Current for All Chargeability, Mexico and the Philippines. EB-2 NIW applicants from these countries now need a priority date earlier than March 15, 2026 to file for Adjustment of Status.

EB-1 China and India moved forward by 7 months, and EB-2 China advanced by a full year.

USCIS will use the Dates for Filing chart for employment-based filings in October.

Do you really need an immigration attorney for an O-1 or EB-1A case?

No, it isn't required. Nothing stops you from preparing your own petition, and an EB-1A can be self-petitioned entirely.

But that's not the question that decides these cases.
The real question is about the record itself. If a skeptical officer went looking for the weakest link in your file, what would they find first, and could you respond in the RFE?
