Here’s a quick fact that surprises a lot of people: planning ahead tends to be the more affordable option in the long run.

Setting up a trust requires some upfront investment, but probate can take months, involve court procedures, and create real expense down the road. For many families, proactive planning costs far less than putting loved ones through that process later.

Every situation is different, but if your goal is keeping things simple for your family, it is worth having the conversation. Reach out to me today: https://www.kendal-law.com/contact

Most families want the same thing: for things to be as simple as possible for their loved ones when the time comes.

That’s one of the reasons a trust-based estate plan is worth considering. Assets held in a trust may pass outside of probate, which can mean less court involvement, a faster process, and a lot less stress during an already difficult time.

If you want to understand what a trust could mean for your situation, I am happy to walk you through it. Call 248-609-1718 or connect with me via kendal-law.com.

A trust is not just for the wealthy. For parents of minor children, it’s one of the most practical planning tools out there.

It lets you name someone to manage assets on your children's behalf, set guidelines for how funds are used, and decide when your kids actually receive an inheritance rather than having a lump sum handed over the day they turn 18.

Think of it less as a legal document, and more as a set of instructions you leave behind for the people you love most.

If you have been putting off estate planning, that’s exactly where I can step in and help. Serving families across Bloomfield Hills, Oakland County, Troy, Rochester Hills, and throughout Southeast Michigan.

Michigan business owners here is a quick heads-up.

Annual statement fees in Michigan are modest and filed through official state channels. Unfortunately, some businesses receive deceptive notices that look urgent or “past due” and request inflated fees.

Before paying anything, take a moment to verify the source. When in doubt, checking first can save time, money, and frustration.

If you are unsure about a notice you received, or you want help staying current with filings as part of a bigger business plan, we are happy to take a look and help you sort it out.

However, if these assets are not listed in your estate plan, they can go unaccounted for, resulting in your loved ones not having legal access to retrieve them. With that in mind, it is important to keep an up-to-date list of your digital assets and login information in a secure location, and appoint a digital executor to make managing these assets easier.

Many older plans do not account for digital assets. If you are unsure how to incorporate them in your estate plan, contact us today. We are here to help.

If you own a business, your estate plan should clearly answer what happens to the business if you’re not there to run it.

Your plan should address who has authority to act, how operations continue, and how trusted people access accounts and records if something unexpected happens. Without clear direction, even a successful business can stall during a crisis.

A thoughtful conversation can cover both personal and business planning, so everything works together when it matters most.

If you are a business owner and you are not sure if your business is covered in your estate plan, we can walk through it with you.
