Think losing your job means losing your workers’ comp rights?

Not necessarily.

Bernard Nomberg explains a common misconception: your right to workers’ compensation benefits does not automatically disappear just because you no longer work for the company.

Before assuming you’re out of options, know your rights.

We welcome back Mary Evelyn Kimbrough. Mary Evelyn is a rising senior at Mountain Brook High School, and it is her second summer working at the Nomberg Law Firm. Mary Evelyn became interested in law through her experiences with Mountain Brook’s Youth in Government programs. She participates in Youth Legislature, Mock Trial, and was recently a delegate at Alabama Girls State. Outside of those activities, Mary Evelyn volunteers at the McWane Science Center and is a member of her school’s choir.

Mary Evelyn Kimbrough and Olivia Self, two of our summer interns, participated in Alabama Girls State at the University of Alabama this past week. Olivia ran for Lt. Governor and Mary Evelyn ran for Secretary of State. They both said this experience was transformative; they learned about state legislation, debated bills and topics, and gave speeches in front of large audiences. We are very proud of them and missed their help in the office!

Welcome back Annabel Davis!

She is a rising 3L at Vanderbilt Law School. This is her second summer clerking for the Nomberg Law Firm. She is excited to continue assisting the firm in its representation of injured workers in Alabama. Annabel attended a mediation on her first day back with us. She hopes to have the opportunity to return to the courthouse sometime this summer.

In her free time, she likes to read poetry and literary fiction, play guitar, draw, go to the movies, and hang by the pool.

What happens to workers’ comp benefits when you get divorced?
