From the Know Your Exposure series: Asbestos in the Mining and Milling Industry

During the peak industrial and mining booms, the intense demand for raw minerals drove rapid expansion across plants and underground operations. To extract valuable minerals, heavy machinery crushed, ground, and transported materials continuously. Millions of miners, millworkers, and plant operators kept these facilities running around the clock, often unaware of the severe health hazard hanging in the air. Massive quarry pits, underground shafts, and crushing mines became epicenters of industrial production, exposing workers to harmful mineral dusts.

Some equipment that contained asbestos included:
- Brakes/Brake Pads
- Cement
- Clutches
- Electric Wires

Raw asbestos fibers were easily kicked up into the air every day during processing tasks. When working in mines or mills, workers inhaled particles of this harmful mineral in confined underground spaces or poorly ventilated processing buildings.

If you or a loved one worked in the mining or milling industry and have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related health problem, you may be entitled to compensation.

What happens if your car is totaled, but you still owe thousands on the loan? 🚘

Standard auto insurance only pays out what your vehicle is worth today (the actual cash value). Because cars depreciate so quickly, that payout can sometimes be significantly less than your remaining loan balance.

That’s where GAP Insurance comes in. It covers the "gap" between what insurance pays out and what you still owe your lender so you aren't stuck paying out-of-pocket for a car you can no longer drive.

When you might want to have it:
- You put down less than 20% on your loan
- You leased your vehicle
- You signed a loan for 60+ months

For us National Lung Cancer Awareness Day isn’t just a date on the calendar.

Every day, we work alongside individuals directly affected by this horrible disease from preventable asbestos exposure. We see the bravery it takes to face a diagnosis, and we see the impact on the people that love them.

Today, we stand with the fighters, honor those we’ve lost, and reaffirm our commitment to holding negligent corporations accountable. No one should pay for someone else’s negligence with their health.

From the Know Your Exposure series: Asbestos in the Shipbuilding & Maritime industry
During he height of World War II and the Cold War, the urgent demand for a powerful global armada sparked an era of military manufacturing and maritime innovation. To protect vessels from fires, the government lined every hull, boiler room, and mess hall with heavy-duty insulation. Millions of shipyard workers built, repaired, and upgraded naval ships to keep the fleet ready, completely unaware of a health hazard hidden in plain sight. Major deep water ports and bustling shipyards along the Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf Coasts became epicenters of naval production, transforming coastal cities into massive industrial hubs dedicated to building and maintaining the fleet.

- Asbestos exposure occurred when:
- Installing and cutting insulation
- Mixing cement
- Repairing and retrofitting the ships
- Welders placed asbestos cloths over flammable areas

Raw, powdered asbestos was often mixed into the insulation at shipyards, which was used in almost every part of the ship.

When working on the ship, shipyard workers cut, mixed, and installed these materials in confined, poorly ventilated areas like hulls and pipe tunnels. This created thick clouds of dust containing asbestos.

If you or a loved one worked in the shipbuilding and maritime industry and have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related cancer, you may be entitled to compensation.
