Hurricane season isn't just about stocking up on batteries and bottled water. If you’re a homeowner, preparation now can save you a lot of stress later, especially when it comes to dealing with insurance companies.
Here’s a quick checklist to help you get ahead of the storm:
1. Review your insurance policy
Make sure you know what’s covered and what isn’t, especially when it comes to wind and flood damage. Look at your deductibles and check for any exclusions. If anything’s unclear, reach out to your insurance company or give us a call.
2. Take photos and videos of your property
Walk through your home and around your yard, and document everything. Take clear shots of your roof, appliances, furniture, electronics, and any upgrades you’ve made. These photos can be critical for proving damage if you need to file a claim.
3. Store important documents somewhere safe
Keep your insurance info, ID, and other important paperwork in a waterproof folder or back them up digitally. Think cloud storage, email, or an external drive.
4. Make a simple inventory of your stuff
Write down what you own and how much it’s worth. You don’t need anything fancy, even a quick list on your phone helps. This makes things much easier if you ever need to prove the value of lost items.
