Most people can tell you their car payment down to the dollar. Fewer can tell you what their insurance actually covers.

Liability limits. Underinsured motorist coverage. PIP. MedPay. Rental car coverage. These aren't just line items, they're what stands between you and a potential stack of bills if you’re in an accident.

There are many moments in life when you might need a lawyer, even if you don’t realize it at the time. From signing a contract to negotiating the buying or sale of a business, legal advice on the front end can save you from costly mistakes later. For instance, if you’re entering a partnership or starting a new business venture, a lawyer can help ensure the terms are fair and your interests are protected. The same goes for any contract you sign; whether it’s for a job, a service, or a purchase, a lawyer can make sure you’re not agreeing to something that puts you at risk.

Let’s be honest, dealing with the aftermath of a storm is overwhelming enough without having to fight your insurance company, too. So when should you get a lawyer involved? Here are a few signs:

1. Your claim is denied or delayed
If you’ve done everything right - filed on time, submitted documentation, and followed up, and you’re still getting the runaround, it might be time to bring in some help.

2. The payment they offer doesn’t come close to covering the damage
It’s not uncommon for insurance companies to lowball that first offer. You don’t have to accept it. If something feels off, trust your gut and get a second opinion.

3. They’re blaming you or claiming the damage isn’t storm-related
We see this all the time. Companies trying to shift the blame to avoid paying. A lawyer can help push back and make sure they’re held accountable.

Bottom line: if the process is starting to feel unfair, confusing, or just flat-out stressful, reach out. You don’t have to handle it alone, and we’re here to make sure you’re treated fairly and compensated fully.

If you’ve got questions about a claim or just want to know if something seems right, give us a call. No pressure, just honest advice.

Do you know what your homeowner’s insurance actually covers during a hurricane? Now’s the time to review your policy, not after the storm hits!

Here’s a starting point of what to look for: deductibles for named storms, limits for damages, types of coverages (actual cash value vs. replacement cash value), wind-driven rain coverage, if there are any limitations for roof coverage.

A will is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your loved ones and ensure your wishes are honored after you are gone. However, if a will is created when someone lacks the mental capacity to understand what they are signing, or if they are being pressured or manipulated by another person, the will may later be challenged in court. These disputes often lead to litigation, requiring family members to hire lawyers and fight over a loved one’s true intentions. If you feel like you have experienced or witness a situation similar to this, please give us a call.

Thinking of buying or selling a business? A lawyer is essential to navigate the complexities and ensure you’re making the right moves. Even in seemingly straightforward situations, having legal expertise on your side can help you avoid problems down the road. Don't wait until it's too late. When in doubt, consult a lawyer. It is much easier to have a lawyer involved in the beginning to make sure everything is done properly (instead of hiring one later when there is a dispute)!

Hurricane season isn't just about stocking up on batteries and bottled water. If you’re a homeowner, preparation now can save you a lot of stress later, especially when it comes to dealing with insurance companies.

Here’s a quick checklist to help you get ahead of the storm:

1. Review your insurance policy
Make sure you know what’s covered and what isn’t, especially when it comes to wind and flood damage. Look at your deductibles and check for any exclusions. If anything’s unclear, reach out to your insurance company or give us a call.

2. Take photos and videos of your property
Walk through your home and around your yard, and document everything. Take clear shots of your roof, appliances, furniture, electronics, and any upgrades you’ve made. These photos can be critical for proving damage if you need to file a claim.

3. Store important documents somewhere safe
Keep your insurance info, ID, and other important paperwork in a waterproof folder or back them up digitally. Think cloud storage, email, or an external drive.

4. Make a simple inventory of your stuff
Write down what you own and how much it’s worth. You don’t need anything fancy, even a quick list on your phone helps. This makes things much easier if you ever need to prove the value of lost items.
