Congratulations to Elisha’s 18-year-old twins, who graduated from high school today! Ty graduated from Calvert Hall and will attend the University of South Carolina this fall to study Criminal Justice and Pre-Law. Taylor graduated from St. Paul’s School for Girls and will attend Towson University to pursue a degree in Nursing.

We are incredibly proud of both of them and wish them all the best as they begin this exciting new chapter!

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court has issued its ruling in the Archdiocese of Baltimore case. Judge Harner declined — for now — to lift the bankruptcy "pause" that has kept seven survivors' cases from moving forward in Maryland state court. With a plan-confirmation hearing only months away, she found the stay should remain in place to protect recoveries for all survivors. The court emphasized that this reflects where things stand today, and signaled the outcome could change if no reorganization plan is confirmed by the end of September 2026. It also recognized survivors' frustration after nearly three years of waiting. The full Order can be downloaded from the Comment, below.

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court held a two-day hearing in the Archdiocese of Baltimore case. At issue was the Survivors' Committee's request to lift the bankruptcy "stay" on seven survivors' cases so they can move forward in Maryland state court — a step aimed at pressing the Archdiocese and its insurers toward a fair settlement for everyone. Judge Michelle Harner is expected to rule in the coming days, with a key plan-confirmation trial set for September. We continue to stand with survivors and will keep our clients informed at every step.

If claims against the Archdiocese of Baltimore go from bankruptcy to state court, the Catholic Church could face much higher liability.

If the resident is still alive, the case is brought by a power of attorney or next friend. In mass-injury litigation, bellwether trials shape how the entire docket resolves. My new article in TRIAL magazine, "Building Better Bellwethers Using AI," looks at how plaintiff trial teams can use AI to vet cases at intake, analyze dockets at scale, align claims with the science, and flag confounders—without giving up the human judgment that ultimately drives strategy. Out now in the June 2026 issue. (Article available in Comment, below).
