One of the best things about being an immigration lawyer is getting to congratulate clients like Adam Melnyk upon attaining U.S. citizenship. Adam was born & raised in Canada, & he became a permanent resident in 2023. He & his spouse, Alexandra, make Austin their home & are expecting their first child in December. We’re pleased that Adam acquired U.S. citizenship this morning at our federal courthouse.  🇨🇦 🇺🇸

Today’s a happy one for our client, Ruben Alba. He was just sworn in by a federal judge as one of our country’s newest citizens! Ruben was born & raised in Spain. His wife, Celeste, & their two year old daughter are pictured with us, & tomorrow they’ll celebrate their 10th anniversary. Our country continues to thrive with the help of aspiring immigrants & new citizens like Ruben. 🇪🇸 🇺🇸

Pro bono consultations this morning. I’m always saddened when learning about aspiring immigrants who frequently have been victims of trafficking, domestic violence, or other crimes. Many have loved ones who have been deported and have been victimized by unscrupulous people who cheated them out of their hard earned savings. They are always grateful for honest explanations of their situations even if many do not have any feasible options under our overly restrictive immigration laws.

ICE shootings must stop!!! This one happened here in Austin yesterday.

Wilber Rafael Garces Perez legally entered the country in 2024 via the CBP One app and applied for asylum, his attorneys said. But he missed a court hearing after the notice went to the wrong address.

I can't begin to express in words how stressful immigration has been this year for foreign nationals, their families, and their lawyers. It seems like the agencies are working to Delay, Deny, Detain, & Deport anyone they encounter. I've tried to provide updates here on many recent developments. Fortunately, many federal judges are standing up to this administration's War on Lawful Immigration. Readily approvable applications for temporary work permits, green cards, and even U.S. citizenship are just sitting on shelves without adjudications even after applicants have paid the government fees, appeared for biometrics, cleared background checks, and successfully completed in-person interviews.
