Austin Bar Association Solo/Small Firm Section Provides opportunity for professional development for attorneys who are engaged in or have an interest in solo and small firms.

The Solo/ Small Firm Section supports solo and small firm attorneys in promoting professionalism and collegiality within the legal profession and local legal community. We actively encourage solo and small firm practitioners to join our section in order to enjoy the numerous benefits that a membership provides. We provide several opportunities for Continuing Legal Education (CLE), networking, and

Time to network with CLE! Please join us for a CLE lunch about "Integrating the 2024 Changes to the Texas Disciplinary Rules into Your Practice"

Claude Ducloux, former Member of the Texas Committee on Disciplinary Rules and Referenda - 2017-2024, will demonstrate how the various rule changes were intended to be applied, and practical guidance on understanding and using them in practice. The course discusses new definitions, new duties, and interviewing of prospective clients to avoid imputation of conflict of interest.

The Solo and Small Firm Section Fall Social is on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 5:30-7:30pm at the Hilgers House.

Free for members of the Section, $25 for non-members.

Please join us for mingling in a relaxed setting. We will have dinner (self-serve) from Maggiano's and beverages for all. Feel free to bring a friend or two.

Parking: There is free street parking along West Avenue and street parking on W 16th Street that is free after 6:00pm. The Bar Association has a partnership with St. Martin’s Lutheran Church a block away on Rio and W. 15th Street, so that lot can be used after 5:00pm by guests of the house. St. Martin’s entrance is on 15th Street at the corner of 15th and Rio Grande.

We hope you’ll join us for this event!

Agenda: We will spend 15 minutes on membership business and then our speaker will provide an overview of the ABA Model Rules, ABA opinions, Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct, and Texas Ethics opinion that discuss attorney obligations regarding technology, practicing law remotely, competence in technology, the unauthorized practice of law and Generative AI.
