In 2024 SCMR 1078, the Supreme Court of Pakistan ruled that if property is written in Column 17 of the Nikah Nama as deferred dower (mehr), it will be treated as part of the dower. Any ambiguity is decided in favor of the bride, and the burden of proof lies on the husband to prove otherwise.

اس مقدمے میں عدالت نے کہا کہ امانت میں خیانت (405–406 تعزیرات پاکستان) صرف اسی وقت جرم ہے جب امانت سپردگی ثابت ہو۔اگر صرف رقم واپس نہ کی جائے یا معاہدہ پورا نہ ہو تو یہ سول معاملہ ہے، فوجداری جرم نہیں
