Since the end of the global financial crisis in 2008, the global Sukuk market has continued to experience impressive development. From $15 billion in 2008 to approximately $120 billion in 2014, annual issuances have been on the rise. The majority of Sukuk issuances saw oversubscription. For instance, in 2014, the UK sold a £200 million sovereign sukuk that drew an effective demand of £2.3 billion, an increase of 11.5 times. Sukuk volume from 587 instruments totalled $290 billion in 2015. Osun State issued a Sub-National Sukuk in 2013 for around $62 million (N11.4 billion) and a Sovereign Sukuk in 2017 for about $277.93 (N100 billion).[1]

Our Senior Associate, Fernandez Marcus-Obiene, will be speaking/moderating a session at the Focus Group Discussions (FGD) in respect of the ongoing Garnishee Law Reform Project (GLRP) jointly being run by the Justice in Commerce Network (JiCN) - formerly Commercial and Regulatory Disputes Best Practices Law Network (CRIDLaw-Net) - and the Association of Banks' Legal Advisers and Company Secretaries (ABLACS).

The project seeks to evolve the process for enforcement of judgments in Nigeria making the procedure less expensive and more effective for all parties. The FGD will be attended by representatives of the Judiciary, the regulators, the Nigerian Bar Association, banks and non-bank stakeholders, etc.
