We received a heartfelt letter from Hope, one of the boys at the Special Correctional Centre for Boys, Oregun, and a proud beneficiary of our Juvenile Education Project!

Despite his challenges, he has not only embraced the power of education but has also achieved something truly remarkable, he gained admission into the University to study Accounting!

In his heartfelt letter, he wrote, “You gave us the best education as a legacy to build upon and made us believe we have a brighter future.”

Moments like these remind us why we are committed to this cause.

Hope’s journey is proof that education can open doors even in the most challenging circumstances.

From 2020 - Present, the Federal Government budget has shown increased allocations to the Nigerian Correctional Service, but it has consistently omitted the crucial aspect of rehabilitation for incarcerated individuals.

The omission of rehabilitation programs raises serious questions: "How do we prepare these individuals for reintegration into society?"

Without addressing rehabilitation, we risk perpetuating cycles of recidivism and reintegration challenges.

Rehabilitation isn’t just a box to check; it’s the foundation for building safer communities, reducing recidivism, and transforming lives. This glaring gap in the budget captures why we are advocating strongly for its inclusion in the 2025 allocation. Let’s invest in change where it truly matters.

Building on the advocacy for the inclusion of rehabilitation programs for incarcerated persons in the 2025 Budget allocation, as discussed during our Executive Director 's interview on Nigeria Info (99.3FM), we have taken further action by writing to:

- The Chairman, Senate Committee on Interior
- The Chairman, House Committee on Reformatory Institutions
- The Federal Ministry of Interior
- The Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning
- The Controller General of Corrections

Our letter advocates for a comprehensive review of the 2025 Budget to prioritize the reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of incarcerated individuals.

We call on stakeholders and supporters to join us in raising their voices for this vital cause. A balanced budget that addresses the needs of justice-impacted persons is crucial to reducing recidivism and ensuring their successful reintegration into society.

Our Juvenile Education Project (JEP) is a natural extension of our commitment to ensuring that education reaches every justice-impacted individual, regardless of age or circumstance. These materials were more than donations, they were tools of empowerment, hope, and transformation. Throwback to when we donated educational materials to the Special Correctional Centre for Boys, Oregun, laying the groundwork for our virtual classes for the children, preparing them for Junior National Examination .

We remain driven by the belief that education can rewrite stories and restore dignity for people impacted by the justice system.

We are still buzzing with excitement from the CELSIR/AIFA Book Club at the Female Custodial Facility, Kirikiri!

We couldn’t be happier to share the feedback from our women. They are nothing short of stories of transformation, resilience, and the undeniable impact of books on rehabilitation. These are stories that fuels our drive to keep going.

The alarming rise of awaiting trial inmates in correctional facilities across the nation is a grave concern.

Our executive director, Joke Aladesanmi-Olafisoye has highlighted the urgent need to address this issue, as it directly infringes upon the fundamental human rights of those incarcerated.

The prolonged detention of individuals awaiting trial not only undermines the principles of justice but also creates a humanitarian crisis within our correctional system.

It is imperative that we take immediate action to decongest our prisons and ensure that the rights of all individuals, regardless of their circumstances, are upheld.

As an organisation, we are advocating that relevant authorities expedite legal processes, reduce pre-trial detention periods, and implement reforms that prioritize the fair treatment of all incarcerated individuals.

Let us work together to create a more just and equitable correctional system that respects the dignity and human rights of every individual.
