What a fantastic night at the Yorkshire Legal Awards! 🌟

While we didn’t take home the trophies this year, being shortlisted in two highly competitive categories, Residential Property (Conveyancing) and Private Client (Wills and Probate), is a massive achievement that speaks volumes about the hard work and dedication of our entire team.

✨ 22 years of smiles, support, and welcoming our clients through the door, happy belated retirement to our incredible receptionist, Jane Farr! 💐

It’s taken us a little while to find the right words (and honestly, we are still in denial) but we couldn’t let Jane slide into retirement without a huge shout out!

After 22 incredible years as the welcoming face and voice of Emsleys, our wonderful receptionist has officially retired. Before she stepped away from the front desk, we caught up with her to look back on over two decades of memories:

📍The Biggest Change: Moving from handwritten messages delivered in person to instant emails.
📍Her Secret to Making People Feel at Ease: "Ask how you can help and make conversation with them"
📍Best Memory: Mistaking a mud-splattered conveyancer who had cycled from the Castleford office for an intruder, and calling in Andrew Greenwood to help clear the building, only for a smartly dressed colleague adjusting his bow tie to step out of the toilet! 😂
📍Retirement Plans: Dog walks with her pup Goose, catching up on house jobs, and creating memory boxes for her children.
📍Advice for Her Successor: "Just be yourself."

Jane, thank you for being the heart of our reception for over two decades. Emsleys won’t be the same without you. Enjoy every single moment of your well-deserved retirement! 🐾 ✨

Money expert Martin Lewis recently highlighted why securing a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is one of the most critical steps you can take for your family. Addressing his comments, Joanne Pitchfork, Head of Wills & Probate at Emsleys Solicitors, breaks down what this means for you.

"Martin Lewis is completely right: a Lasting Power of Attorney is invaluable if the unexpected happens," says Joanne.

"A Property and Financial Affairs LPA lets you pre-select trusted people to manage your money and assets, while a Health and Welfare LPA covers crucial decisions about your living care, daily routine, and medical treatment.

While you can complete application forms yourself for the standard £92 registration fee per document, individual circumstances vary. If your affairs are complex, you aren't tech-savvy, or you wish to appoint a Professional Attorney, expert guidance is key. Incorrectly drawn up LPAs can cause severe delays or even prove completely unusable.”
