Heat-related illness in seniors is a serious and preventable risk, particularly in long-term care homes during extreme heat events.

Older adults are more vulnerable to heat exhaustion and heat stroke due to age-related changes, chronic medical conditions, and medications that can affect the body’s ability to regulate temperature.

If you have a loved one living in an Ontario long-term care home, consider asking:
- When is air conditioning activated?
- What cooling measures are implemented during heat warnings?
- How are residents monitored for signs of heat-related illness?

Families should document concerns about unsafe temperatures and report them to the Director of Care. In some cases, serious illness or death resulting from inadequate heat management may be grounds for a negligence claim.

Cassandra joins our Mass Tort and Class Actions team, bringing a strong focus on product liability and aviation-related matters, along with a deep commitment to advocacy and client care. She is also a Board Member of the Brain Injury Association of York Region.

Victoria also joins our Mass Tort and Class Actions team, with experience in defective medical devices, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, and aviation-related claims. She holds both a JD and LLM from Dalhousie University, where her research focused on medical device safety and public health.

Held in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, the event brought together healthcare professionals, community partners, seniors, and caregivers to promote healthy aging, education, and awareness.

Undisclosed cameras in operating rooms, consultation rooms, and recovery areas. Ontario court has now awarded $22.5 million to approximately 7,000 patients recorded without their consent.

The Court found Dr. Martin Jugenburg ("Dr. 6ix") liable for negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, and intrusion upon seclusion following a common issues trial held in late 2025.
