REFUGEE STATUS DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN’T TRAVEL ✈️🌍
One of our recent clients, who is a refugee in Canada, came to us for assistance with his UK and Schengen visa applications, and both were approved! 🇬🇧🇪🇺
He has now returned from his vacation and shared this beautiful feedback with us. ❤️
He travelled to the UK, Belgium, France and the Netherlands and, as he mentioned in his message, he did experience some additional questions/checks at certain ports of entry because he was travelling with a Canadian Refugee Travel Document.
And this is something I want refugees and protected persons in Canada to know:
Being a refugee in Canada does not automatically mean you cannot travel internationally.
What matters is understanding:
📍What travel document you hold
📍Whether your destination recognizes that travel document
📍Whether you need a visa
📍Your Canadian immigration status
📍The purpose of your trip
📍Your supporting documents and ability to demonstrate that you meet the destination country’s entry requirements
A Refugee Travel Document can be used for international travel, but requirements vary from country to country, so proper preparation is extremely important.
And remember: getting the visa is not the same as being guaranteed entry. You still have to satisfy the border requirements when you arrive.
So if you’ve been thinking, “I’m a refugee in Canada, so I probably can’t travel…” don’t make that assumption.
Get your individual circumstances assessed, check the requirements for your destination, and prepare properly before you travel. ✈️
Congratulations to our client, and thank you for trusting Marot Immigration Services! ❤️🇨🇦
A visa allows a person to travel to the border and request entry; the final decision is still made by the border officer. For Schengen, for example, possession of a visa does not automatically confer a right of entry. The UK similarly requires visitors to satisfy the border officer on arrival.
