A real estate holdback is when a portion of the sellers funds are held in trust until a certain item is complete following closing.

Holdbacks are used when the seller is required to fulfill certain contractual obligations, and they also protect the buyer.

A holdback could be used if the seller did not complete a repair prior to the closing date, or due to a non-compliant RPR. However, there are many other situations where a holdback could be used.
