As wildfire season continues, Abeyta Nelson staff and attorneys send strength to our neighbors affected by the Colwash Fire near Mabton and Prosser, as well as those in Spokane, Leavenworth, Tonasket. If you’ve endured evacuations and devastating losses this summer, first and foremost, make sure your family and pets are taken care of.

Next, when you're ready, call your insurance company and start asking questions. Your homeowner's policy likely covers more than you think, and it's the insurer's job to explain what you bought. Three things you should ask about:

Additional Living Expenses (ALE): Funds which pay for a place to live while your home is repaired or replaced, plus immediate needs like food, clothing, and toiletries. If you're in a hotel, start looking for a rental, as you may be there a long while. Rental furniture can be covered too.

Dwelling Coverage: This is reimbursement to repair, rebuild, or in some cases replace your home. You'll need contractor estimates, and your insurer has to approve the work. If you have a mortgage, call your lender right away and be sure to include them in this process.

Personal Property Coverage: To replace personal items, your insurance company will ask you to list everything you lost, either from previous video footage, or by memory. Make a list, room by room, recreating contents according to location, drawer or shelf, and be as detailed and descriptive of items as possible. Also, inquire if your policy includes replacement cost coverage.

As you’re rebuilding your life after a fire, save every receipt, keep a copy of everything you send and everything you receive, write down who you talked to and when, and follow up until you get an answer. Claims run long, adjusters change, and your notes will be an important record.

If you have any questions about losses to your home or property, call us any time. The wildfire attorneys at Abeyta Nelson Injury Law have helped hundreds of families recover after wildfire loss and stand ready to help you, too.

Fifty years. That's how long founding attorney Terry P. Abeyta has practiced law, and our firm joins the Washington State Bar Association in celebrating this remarkable milestone.

Terry was one of 70 attorneys from across the state recently recognized at a reception at The Museum of Flight in Seattle, with Chief Justice Debra L. Stephens of the Washington State Supreme Court giving the keynote.

Terry is Yakima through and through. He attended Yakima Valley College, graduated at the top of his class from Whitman College, and finished law school at the University of Washington in 1976, working his way through college as a newspaper reporter. He came home to Yakima in 1978 and started what would become Abeyta Nelson Injury Law with his partner Rod Nelson in 1982.

For five decades, Terry has stood up for injured people and their families across Central Washington. But if you ask him about this honor, he does not talk about the trials or the awards. He talks about the people.

"It has been the highest privilege of my professional life to have been able to help so many individuals and families over the past 50 years," Terry said. "Helping my injured clients get the justice they deserve is what I do best."

Congratulations, Terry, from your Abeyta Nelson family. Thank you for 50 years of showing up for this community. Please join us in celebrating Terry Abeyta's lifetime achievement!

We're proud to announce that three Abeyta Nelson attorneys have been named to the 2026 Washington Super Lawyers & Rising Stars list!

Terry Abeyta earns the honor for the 27th consecutive year - Rod Nelson for the 22nd - and David Abeyta is recognized as both a Super Lawyer for the third year and a Rising Star for the eighth straight year.

Only 5% of Washington's 31,000+ licensed attorneys receive the Super Lawyers designation β€” selected through peer nominations, independent research, and review by a blue-ribbon panel. Rising Stars goes to just 2.5%.

Terry was the first personal injury attorney from Central Washington ever named to the list, back in 1999. Decades later, all three of our attorneys continue to reflect the same standard of legal excellence and integrity that has defined our firm since 1982.

Congratulations Terry, Rod, and David! We are so proud to have you representing our clients and our community. πŸŽ‰

πŸš— Memorial Day Weekend is here β€” and while we're all looking forward to BBQs, beach trips, and time with family, it's also one of the most dangerous weekends on the road all year.

This weekend, we're asking everyone to do their part to keep our roads safe by buckling up, putting down the phone, ensuring you're not driving drowsy or impaired, and being extra alert for motorcycles and pedestrians.
