Simpson-Cannon Law Firm, P.A.

Simpson-Cannon Law Firm, P.A. Experienced trial attorney with exemplary work ethic in the areas of contract law, commercial litigation, insurance law, & personal injury.

At first glance, it wouldn't seem that prosecuting criminals and litigating personal injury matters would have much in common. But for Cynthia Simpson-Cannon-- a former assistant state attorney-- they share the most important qualities of all: reversing an injustice and advocating the rights of a victim. Ever since she graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1999, Ms. Simpson

-Cannon has been protecting, and fighting for, individuals who have suffered because of the misdeeds of others. In her five years at the Office of the State Attorney in West Palm Beach, Ms. Simpson-Cannon, known for her tenacity as a litigator, gained trial-by-fire experience that takes most civil trial lawyers decades to develop. With little time to prepare for cases, she learned to think on her feet and to create her case strategies quickly and effectively. She also learned how to counsel and work with victims. These qualities don't just come in handy in the civil cases she now handles; they give her and her clients a crucial edge. With 11 years of trying civil cases, and 5 years of trying criminal cases, Ms. Simpson-Cannon brings an acumen to comprehensively represent clients in their legal matters. But for the Florida native and University of Miami graduate, a passion for the law is not enough. Compassion for clients, and the drive to get them the results they deserve, is what makes a first-rate lawyer-- and an outstanding law firm.

When a business contract is vague, the outcome of a dispute is rarely decided by the document alone.

In Florida, courts may look beyond the contract (at emails, conduct, and the real-world relationship between the parties) to determine what the agreement actually meant.

That context often becomes the case.

If your contract leaves room for interpretation, strategy matters long before litigation begins.

It feels like theft.

Your tenant is collecting money from a sub-tenant… and not paying you.

So you think: “Let’s go after them for civil theft.”

Not so fast.

If the relationship is governed by a contract, incorrectly labeling it “theft” can backfire and potentially leave you paying their attorney’s fees.

We break down why this happens (and what business owners often miss) in this week’s blog: https://www.pbtrialattorney.com/blog/when-a-business-dispute-isnt-theft

Your business partner isn’t just underperforming—they may be misusing your money.

When a business partner misuses company funds, it’s not always just a broken agreement, it could be something more serious.

Many business owners assume their only option is a breach of contract claim. But under Florida law, the misuse of specifically entrusted funds may rise to civil theft, which carries significantly higher consequences.

If something about your situation feels off, it’s worth a closer look.
