With great sadness, our Crooks Law Firm family shares news of the passing of Kevin Crooks.
Kevin retired at the end of 2022 from a storied career where he focused his practice primarily on family law. He took pride in serving as the third generation of the Crooks name in the firm, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, great-uncle, and father, which made him the best firm historian one could ask for. As he saw retirement approaching, he took a paternalistic role in ensuring the Crooks Law Firm legacy continued in our community: focusing on hiring the best and brightest to lead the firm into the future, mentoring anyone who would listen to his perspective, and finding ways to turn business decision points into teaching opportunities.
Beyond the office, Kevin taught us the importance of building a life outside of work that is worth going home to: finding immense joy in his family, his hobbies, and his service to the community. We will miss the softer side of Kevin that he kept closer to the vest: the version that lit up when talking about his family or telling stories of his past adventures, and the version that could spend hours showing us his favorite parts of his beloved woodland property.
We are so thankful for his role in our firm’s legacy and in all our lives, and we are sending our deepest condolences to the whole Crooks family.
The funeral service will be Friday, August 21, 2026 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. We will update this post with more details and his full obituary when available.
