One of the most common things we hear is, "I do not have enough to need an estate plan." Estate planning is not about the size of your bank account. It is about who makes decisions for you if you are ill or injured, who cares for your children, and who receives what you have worked for, whether that is a home, a retirement account, a car, or family keepsakes. If you are over 18, you need at least a will, a financial power of attorney, and an advance directive for health care. Without them, your family may have to ask a court for authority to act for you, which costs time and money at the moment they can least afford either. A plan sized to your life is one of the most practical gifts you can give the people who depend on you.
