Immigration Law is more than just completing USCIS forms! For most Clients, it's also about explaining the "YES," to get the benefit sought now (Green Card), and preserving the ultimate future benefit (Naturalization). Check a "NO" instead of a "YES" and the Client pays the ultimate price of deportation, years down the road.

My advice to individuals, whether petitioners or beneficiaries, seeking immigration benefits, is to consult with an immigration attorney before submitting your forms to USCIS. It can save you from financial and medical headaches.

Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) is the partial or total removal of the external female genitalia. FGM has no medical benefits and can cause death. Though the practice is illegal in the United States, 200 million women alive today have undergone FGM in 30 countries.

Practitioners justify FGM on the basis of preserving marital fidelity. In reality, this dehumanizing procedure is a brutal means of subjugating women. FGM inherently violates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), and the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).

FGM is widespread in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The procedure can cause both immediate and long-term health consequences. These include severe pain, excessive bleeding, and increased risk of childbirth complications. Women and young girls fleeing FGM may seek asylum in the United States under U.S. asylum law. Consult Delali Dagadu, U.S. immigration attorney, for legal help.
