Celebrating Pride is more than just a month on the calendar, it's a movement that represents the courage it takes to live openly and authentically, and it's a call to action for equality and acceptance for all.

From the Stonewall Riots to today, the journey towards equality has been driven by fearless individuals who dared to stand up for their rights and the rights of others. We pay tribute to their bravery and resilience, and we pledge to continue their work by fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all of our Porters.

At Ellis Porter, we believe that diversity is our strength. Our commitment to inclusivity means ensuring that every voice is heard and valued. We are dedicated to creating a workplace where people can bring their whole selves to work, where diversity of thought and identity is celebrated, and where discrimination is nowhere to be found.

During Pride Month, we'll be hosting a virtual learning opportunity for our Porters, exploring the history of Pride, and understanding the differences within the LGBTQIA+ experience globally. We aim to provide opportunities for learning and growth, and we'll encourage all of our Porters to participate, share their stories, and support one another.

We are committed to sustaining our efforts year-round. This means advocating for inclusive policies, supporting LGBTQIA+ organizations, and continually striving to improve our practices and culture.

On this , we want to celebrate the strength, resilience, and brilliance of women around the globe. From the pioneers who shattered glass ceilings, to the everyday heroes who stand up for what's right, women have been driving positive change and making history in every corner of the world.

While there has been progress made on gender equality, let’s also take a moment to recognize the challenges women still face each day - at home, at work, in academic settings, in partnerships, and in society. Despite our current progress, gender inequality persists in various forms, including unequal pay, limited access to education and healthcare, and instances of violence and discrimination. Women get up every day knowing they have to work a little harder to be respected, to be seen, to be heard, to get what is deserved. And yet, women around the world find the strength to do it.

Today is not only a celebration, but also a call to action. It's a reminder of the work that still needs to be done to ensure that every woman and girl can live freely, without fear or limitation. Let's continue to support and uplift one another, amplify women's voices, and advocate for a more inclusive and equitable world for all.

To all the women out there: You are powerful, you are resilient, and you are valued. Here's to you today and every day!

In honor of International Women’s Day, and the remarkable Women of Ellis Porter, we have made a donation to the Women's Refugee Commission. To honor , Ellis Porter hosted an engaging virtual experience With Confetti titled "Exploring Black Art." This interactive presentation visited the creative realms of four remarkably successful Black artists: Olowe of Ise, Alma Thomas, Amy Sherald, and Kehinde Wiley. Our Porters had the opportunity to unravel the artistic techniques of these visionaries, as they skillfully brought their unique perspectives on the world to life.

By immersing ourselves in the rich tapestry of Black art expressions, we not only celebrated the outstanding achievements of these artists but also contributed to a deeper understanding of the complex stories intricately displayed in their art.

Some of our Porters had the opportunity to participate in the event hosted by the Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor last Friday! This event aimed to support and promote CSC's essential programs, known for enhancing the physical well-being, mental health, and overall quality of life for cancer patients.

Beyond its cause, the event itself was a wonderful affair, featuring a lively and interactive strolling dinner, accompanied by live jazz music, and an auction that included trips to the Cayman Islands and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. All proceeds from this event go directly to supporting the CSC of Greater Ann Arbor, ensuring they can sustain their services for the community they serve.

Our October event included experiencing the haunted history of Detroit and Hamtramck! Detroit History Tours and The Detroit History Club took our Porters on a spooky ride through the two cities while sharing real ghost stories and stopping at some historically haunted sites like the original Buddy’s Pizza and a super-exclusive pub, PLAV No. 10 along the way!

A huge shout out to Bailey Sisoy Moore, our host, who was incredibly informative and tailored the experience to our group every step of the way!

It’s the end of and EP is proud to have been able to support seven Metro Detroit Black-owned businesses! Not only was the food from these restaurants incredible, but having the opportunity to work with these business owners has been as well. Each of them had such a unique story to share, many with immigrant backgrounds as well. We can’t thank them enough for sharing their stories, cultures, and delicious meals with us; we’ll definitely be back for more 😋

Our Porters showed up to support the CHASS Center at their 11th Annual 5K in Mexicantown, Detroit this weekend! After the race, we stayed to watch Ballet Folklorico México Lindo and then kept the fun going with brunch at El Rancho Mexican Restaurant! 🏃‍♀️🌯

Ellis Porter is proud to recognize and support National Black Business Month, particularly in solidarity with Black entrepreneurs, who are often marginalized and face greater challenges in accessing funding for their businesses. In an effort to uplift local Black-owned businesses, EP will exclusively cater our regular weekly office lunches in the Ann Arbor and Troy offices from Black-owned restaurants.

Our Porters had the privilege of speaking with Lulu Nestor of Freedom House Detroit about the challenges LGBTQ+ refugees face. We discussed topics such as country conditions causing individuals to become refugees, the process of seeking out humanitarian protection, and how Freedom House helps create a safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ refugees while aiding them with legal action.

In observance of , we’re taking a moment to recognize the struggles that refugees face. While donating to organizations that support refugees is an important part of the support they need, we also want to focus on channeling empathy and raising awareness.

As we near the end of Pride month, EP will be hosting a firmwide program by Freedom House Detroit to discuss the unique challenges facing refugees from the LGBTQ+ community and to showcase the amazing work being done by the Freedom House Detroit team to support LGBTQ+ refugees.

Following the program, EP will be conducting an employer-match donation drive with our Porters throughout the US to raise funds for Freedom House Detroit.
