The Trump administration’s ban on visas for immigrants from 75 countries was struck down by a federal judge on Friday, who ruled it was “contrary to law” and outside the statutory authority of Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

ICE must stop lying, bullying, and deliberately keeping people from their lawyers. The law is the only thing we have, and have ever had, to keep us from being repressed by power and money run amuck. Which is what we have now.

Videos show ICE threatening to smash Eduardo Aguirre's truck window. Aguirre, who is married to a US citizen, was sent to a detention facility in Texas.

US Court Strikes Down Asylum Transit Ban

A federal court struck down one of the most controversial and restrictive asylum policies!

On May 7, 2026, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California vacated the Circumvention of Lawful Pathways ("CLP") rule - also known as the asylum transit ban.

For those that don't know: This was the rule that heavily restricted asylum eligibility for many migrants who traveled through another country on their way to the United States without first seeking protection there. If an individual entered the US between May 2023 - May 2025, without applying for asylum in a safe third country (or meeting one of the exceptions), they were barred from receiving asylum.

The court reaffirmed prior findings that the rule was contrary to asylum law, “arbitrary and capricious,” and procedurally defective.

SO as of right now, the CLP rule is vacated and unenforceable nationwide unless the government successfully obtains a stay pending appeal.

If you were denied asylum only because you did not apply for asylum in a different country on your way to the US, you may be eligible for asylum now. But you will need to change the order with the court.

This is also an important reminder of something bigger:
Immigration policy changes CONSTANTLY. Sometimes overnight. And sometimes policies that dramatically impact people’s lives are later found unlawful by the courts.

So this is why we have to stay informed and keep up to date constantly to best advocate for our clients!
