Please join us in welcoming our newest attorney, T. Alec Chappell! 🎉
Alec, originally from Columbus, Georgia, is a proud Double Bear, having received both his bachelor’s degree and his law degree from Mercer University. In 2012, he graduated, summa cm laude, from Mercer’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a B.A. in political science and a minor in economics. In 2016, he received his J.D., summa cm laude and valedictorian, from Mercer Law School. During law school, Alec received the George Waldo Woodruff Award of Excellence for graduating first in his class, served on the Mercer Law Review, and earned 13 CALI Excellence for the Future Awards for the highest grade in a particular class.
After law school, Alec clerked from 2016–2017 for the Honorable C. Ashley Royal of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. Then, in 2017, he moved to Savannah to clerk for the Honorable Edward J. Coleman III of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Georgia. He served as Judge Coleman’s career clerk from 2017–2026. In 2024, Alec taught two semesters of legal writing as an adjunct professor of law at Mercer Law School.
Outside of work, Alec enjoys reading about ancient history, traveling the world, working out in the gym, kayaking, and spending time outdoors.
