When a car strikes a child near a school, the medical coverage for those first bills usually comes from the driver's policy, since most kids don't carry their own. That coverage only holds if care starts fast. Florida requires treatment within 14 days, from a physician, dentist, chiropractor, APRN, or hospital, not massage or acupuncture. If a qualified provider determines there was no emergency medical condition, PIP medical benefits drop to just $2,500 instead of the standard $10,000 limit.
Photos can wait until your child is stable. Once things settle, get witness names and keep the helmet or backpack as it was that day.
