A year after the Pickett Fire burned more than 6,800 acres across Napa County’s Howell Mountain wine country, new criminal charges and civil litigation are bringing renewed attention to the fire’s cause and its significant impact on the region.

Live Insurance News recently reported on the latest developments, including that wine businesses affected by the Pickett Fire have retained Singleton Schreiber as they pursue potential civil claims related to their losses.

Napa County agricultural officials estimated approximately $56 million in wine grape losses following the fire, with smoke damage forcing numerous wineries to abandon their 2025 vintages.

As the legal process moves forward, our wildfire litigation team remains focused on helping affected businesses and property owners understand their rights and pursue accountability for their losses.

Law.com recently featured Singleton Schreiber Managing Partner Gerald Singleton in coverage examining whether Southern California Edison could move toward resolving claims in the Eaton Fire litigation following a newly released investigative report and with trial approaching.

The report concluded that Southern California Edison's transmission equipment caused the Eaton Fire, adding significant evidence to litigation brought on behalf of thousands of individuals, families, businesses, and communities affected by the January 2025 wildfire.

Jerry discussed how those findings could affect the litigation landscape as plaintiffs continue seeking accountability and full compensation for their losses.

As Spokane families begin the difficult work of recovering from the Spokane Complex Fires, understanding FEMA assistance and insurance coverage can be an important part of moving forward.

Singleton Schreiber Partners Vanessa Waldref and Rich Barker recently joined community leaders at our Spokane wildfire recovery town hall, where they shared practical guidance for fire-impacted families navigating insurance claims, FEMA applications, documentation, and the recovery process.

The event and their guidance were recently featured by The Spokesman-Review and NonStop Local KHQ. Rich emphasized the importance of seeking help when challenges arise with FEMA or insurers, while Vanessa encouraged families to carefully document communications with adjusters, expenses, receipts, and other information related to their claims.

We’re grateful to the community leaders, first responders, organizations, and residents who came together to share resources and help Spokane families understand the road ahead.

How many experts does it take to analyze a trucking accident? More than most people expect.

Partner Sara Williams breaks down why a single trucking accident case can call for an accident reconstructionist, a lighting expert, a biomechanical expert, and a cell phone forensics expert — sometimes all at once. Each one answers a different piece of what happened on the road, and knowing how to coordinate them under one case theory is what separates a claim that gets undervalued from one that gets fully investigated. It's the kind of coordination that comes from years of trial experience, not a formula.

What expert would you never go to trial without? Tell us below.

Strong legal advocacy can do more than pursue compensation. It can help survivors reclaim control.

As attorney Jasmyne Crimiel explains in our latest blog post, civil litigation allows survivors of sexual assault and human trafficking to seek accountability, pursue financial recovery, and hold institutions responsible when they fail to protect those in their care.

Civil claims can also move cases forward even when criminal charges are never filed or do not result in a conviction, giving survivors another path to pursue justice and, in many cases, helping drive meaningful institutional change.

For attorneys, understanding these legal options is essential to ensuring survivors have access to every avenue available to them.

Read the full blog post to learn how civil litigation can help survivors move forward and why these cases can have an impact far beyond a single claim.

30 years of premiums. Never filed a claim. Then a claim is filed, and the first thing that shows up is a delay.

Michelle Meyers doesn't dress it up: an insurance company is a for-profit institution, very good at making money and very good at protecting it. What actually scares a carrier is an insured who knows exactly what their policy owes them.
