Educational tax credits and deductions are often among the most overlooked when people prepare their tax returns. The American Opportunity Credit, Lifetime Learning Credit as well as certain deductions for tuition and fees are all available.
If you're not sure if you or your family is eligible, here's a calculator from the IRS to help you determine whether you meet the criteria.
As always, double-check with your tax preparer to make sure.

Identity theft scammers just never stop. A new warning tonight from the IRS.
Thieves are altering caller ID's to make it look like they're from an official government agency and then conning victims out of millions.
So far, victims have lost more than 20-million dollars.
Take a minute to read the latest information and make sure to emphasize vigilance with elderly family and friends as well as to others for whom English is a second language and who may not be as familiar with American laws.
